Our Beauty Editor’s Guide To Caring For Oily Skin
WHAT IS OILY SKIN
The skin produces sebum, a type of oily substance that not only lubricates the skin and protects it from drying out, but also helps remove dead skin cells and irritants from our pores.
If you have oily skin like me, you are probably looking at overactive sebaceous glands that produce excessive sebum. I know I have oily skin because my skin is constantly shiny or greasy; it’s that little extra shine on my T-zone. Oily skin is caused by puberty, college life, being active, and heightened hormone levels. My pores are enlarged and easily clogged when dirt, impurities, and dead skin cells accumulate. The results: blackheads, pimples, and sliding makeup.
All these annoyances, boils down to the fact that I had not found the right skincare routine for my oily skin.
THE RIGHT SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR OILY SKIN IS AS EASY AS 1-2-3
I thought I should keep washing my face if I want to get rid of the excess oil and grease from my face. I was so wrong. Turns out I should only wash twice a day. Over-washing strips the moisture off my skin and that raises red flags to the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.
STEP 1: GET CLEANSING RIGHT
If you have oily skin like me, that means you shouldn’t skip your morning cleansing routine. When you sleep, dirt, dead skin cells, and excess oil would have built up on your skin and clogged your pores. A mild foam cleanser like Nanowhite Fresh Foam Cleanser deeply cleanses the skin and controls excess sebum for a fresh, bright, and flawless complexion.
After a long day out, I’d come home with greasy, pore-clogged skin. I start off my skincare routine using Nanowhite Fresh Brightening Oil Control Micellar Water to pre-cleanse. It works perfectly on oily skin to remove all kinds of makeup and impurities in just one wipe. It also keeps the skin cleansed, hydrated, and soothed.
I will then reach for the Nanowhite Fresh Gel Cleanser, it contains bursting microbeads which helps to deeply cleanse away impurities and excess oil on the skin without stripping moisture from the skin.
STEP 2: USING A TONER IS IMPORTANT
One of the most irritating things about oily skin is that my makeup doesn’t stay on my skin. The excess sebum will literally melt my makeup away. It’s important to not skip the toner in my daily skincare routine. I use Nanowhite Fresh Miracle Mist. It is formulated with Vitamin-C, tea tree oil, and sea algae. It has 9-in-1 functions, including brightening, soothing, and excess oil reduction. I use it to rehydrate my skin and set my makeup too!
STEP 3: MOISTURISER IS A MUST
Like it or not, oily skin doesn’t mean you should skip your moisturiser. It is important to keep oily skin moisturised because if the moisture level is low, the sebaceous glands in the skin would produce even more sebum. I choose Nanowhite Fresh Mattifying Moisturiser to complete my morning routine. It is enriched with active ingredients that regulates sebum secretion for less oily skin. It is also lightweight and absorbs quickly into my skin to brighten dull and uneven skin tone.
I call it a day after using Nanowhite Fresh Aqua Sleeping Essence. This is my go-to night cream, and daily sleeping mask that whitens and hydrates my skin during my beauty sleep. It is enriched with red seaweed, sodium hyaluronate, tea tree oil, Vitamin C, and sea algae. This is my secret to a moisturised skin in the morning!
